All Things Newport Coast Villas

What I wish I knew before arriving—from check-in, parking, towels, and groceries to the meals that make a Newport Coast stay even better.

Arrival

Check in, settle in, and text instead of calling

Checking in at such a large resort can get chaotic around the 4:00 check-in time—no matter what day of the week it is. Even with six agents behind plexiglass windows all working to check in guests as quickly as possible, you can wait in line for a while.

Marriott now sends a welcome text upon check-in. If your villa is not ready, the message explains where you can enjoy amenities and what account to charge until you receive notice that the villa is ready. You can also text BELL for luggage help. For anything you need during your stay, use that same number. In my experience, they respond quickly and confirm the request will be handled within about 30 minutes.

I tried calling from the villa a few times and never got an answer, so texting them directly is the way to go. If you do not receive a welcome text shortly after check-in, ask the front desk to verify the phone number they entered. That happened to me, and it became important once I realized texting was the most dependable way to reach the resort team.

Parking and pool towels

Each villa receives one green pass for the driver’s-side window. Two additional yellow passes are available for extra cars, which must use the parking garage. There are no parking fees, and the garage has charging stations.

Each villa receives eight pool towels. Current practice may change, but during our stay towels could be exchanged at the pool from noon to 6:00 p.m. You can also text for bath or pool-towel exchanges delivered to your villa. If you arrive before your villa is ready, ask the front desk about borrowing towels for the day.

First-day routine

Groceries, Costco, and the Concierge card

Start with Pavilions

Pavilions is close by at 21181 Newport Coast Drive and has a good selection. Before you go, create a free account tied to your cell number. The member prices are worth it—our $19 first-day purchase saved $8.

Large group? Try Costco

Costco in Laguna Niguel is about 8 miles away and roughly 20 minutes without toll roads. Turn the toll-road setting off on your phone. We paid $17.50 for a very short toll-road stretch, which was more than my frugal personality wanted to pay.

Pick up the discount card

Stop at Concierge for the Vacation Privileges / member discount card. It can provide restaurant discounts, often 10–20%, or a free appetizer or dessert. Be prepared to be asked about a sales presentation if you have not already declined or agreed to one.

Then, if you are anything like us, put on your tennis shoes and head down to walk along the beach. The upcoming days are going to be AWESOME.

On property

La Vista Bar & Grill

La Vista Bar & Grill beside the main pool

Newport Coast does not have a traditional sit-down restaurant, but La Vista Bar & Grill at the main pool is a great place for a quick meal, snack, or drink. During our visit it was open daily from 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., with live entertainment from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. It does not deliver to the villas, so plan to enjoy it by the pool.

Our favorites are the Poke Bowl, Chicken Quesadilla, Mahi Mahi Fish Sandwich, and Nachos.

Do not miss Taco Tuesday

Every taco you build is $5 on Tuesday. You tell the servers what you want and choose exactly what goes on however many tacos you order. It was SO YUMMY—and a much better deal than the fish tacos my husband got, which were not part of the special.

A favorite meal out

Beachcomber at Crystal Cove

From MVC owner recommendations, I have compiled a list of favorite restaurants when staying at Newport Coast Villas. Beachcomber at Crystal Cove received the highest recommendation—and I totally agree.

They serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Reservations are highly recommended because it gets crowded. You can walk from your villa or use the free shuttle. Eating on the beach is a dream.

Ask Concierge about the current member discount card. During our visit, the card included 10% off food at Beachcomber.

For breakfast, I had the Brioche French Toast and Beignets. I know—not the healthiest—but it was REALLY good.

The beignets were warm with heated buttermilk syrup—OH MY GOSH!

More Newport Coast topics are coming

This guide is designed to grow. Future additions can cover shuttle service, activity schedules, a resort map, best villa locations to request, and more owner experiences. For now, this is the guide I would want on arrival day: how to get settled, where to shop, and where to eat well.
