If COVID isn’t enough to deal with, we now have wildfires and hurricanes affecting some resorts. The above image was taken today, August 23, 2021 and shows the smoky skies in South Lake Tahoe from the Caldor Fire.
If you have reservations to travel to any of the three MVC properties (including the Ritz-Carlton) near Lake Tahoe, you need to check conditions regularly. There is no threat of the fire actually burning any of these properties, but as you can see in the image, the air quality is awful. I heard from a guest currently staying at the Timber Lodge in South Tahoe today saying they were staying in their room. Even the pool area was too smoky, let alone a stroll to the lake. Hiking trails are closed. Highway 50 going towards Sacramento is closed in both directions.
You can check the resort status at any time at the hub Marriott provides https://hub.vacationclub.com/ for any MVC property. The notice currently showing for the Timber Lodge property on their website states:
IMPORTANT WEATHER UPDATE
Before your departure, we wanted to make you aware the resort is currently monitoring winds and other conditions associated with wildfires in the area. However, please note that while there is no change to the operating status of the resort at this time, the Highway 50 road closure leading into South Lake Tahoe may impact your ability to access the resort.
We encourage you to actively monitor the current weather situation in the area of the resort before you depart. Further updates on resort operating or road closure status will be provided on this page should conditions warrant.
